Woodworking power tools can add so much value to a wood working project and most hobbyists and, surely all professionals, find them indispensable.  Where the professional carpenter needs power tools to speed up the job and to increase profits, the hobbyist will find that the pleasure of accomplishing one’s creative ambitions are greatly enhanced.  Skills you thought you lacked, suddenly get within your reach. 

Never been able to draw a straight line, or cut a 90° angle?  Don’t worry, some of the tools do it for you.  Woodworking power tools have brought these abilities to the hobbyist and home improver, abilities which have previously been limited to very expensive factory machinery and professional craftsmen.

Woodworking tasks can be split up into quite a few types, of which the extremes are rough woodworking tasks for larger building type of projects and the finer more “artistic” type.  Clearly there is a vast difference between making a coffee table, music box or spice rack and putting up shelves in the garage, a gate at the entrance to the back garden or a framework for a pergola in your back yard.

Even building an entertainment center cabinet can be quite different from making the doors to such a cabinet, depending on the measure of effort and woodworking skills you have or want to develop.

In combination with power tools, the woodworker will need a few hand tools as well, for example, a carpenter’s hammer, a set of chisels, even a set of good screwdrivers in addition to using a power tool.
